CAIRDAC, SA, a pre-revenue stage medtech company, today announced the appointment of Raymond W. Cohen as chairman of its board of directors. He contributes more than forty years of experience in the medical-technology sector to the role at CAIRDAC.

Edouard Fonck, Chief Executive Officer of CAIRDAC, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Cohen to the CAIRDAC board of directors,” “Ray’s extensive track record in leading, scaling and exiting medical technology companies will, no doubt, be invaluable as we advance this exciting project.”

Leadership Experience

Cohen is an accredited public company director and accomplished medical technology executive. He co-founded and served as CEO of Axonics, Inc. (Nasdaq: AXNX), a global leader in implantable neuromodulation devices.

Under his leadership, Axonics completed its initial public offering in 2018 and was recognized as the fastest-growing technology company in North America, generating over $1.2 billion in revenue in four years. Axonics was acquired by Boston Scientific in late 2024 for $3.7 billion.

Commercial Potential

Cohen stated that he sees tremendous commercial potential for leadless pacemaker powered by the movement of the human heart. He noted that ALPS uses a frequency-tuned piezoelectric harvester to convert the mechanical energy of each heartbeat into electricity and store it in an onboard rechargeable battery. By reducing battery-driven constraints, this architecture is designed to support advanced capabilities such as multi-chamber pacing, continuous remote monitoring, diagnostics features and inter-device communication.

The global pacemaker market is estimated to be around $5.5 billion. CAIRDAC is developing ALPS, a leadless pacing platform designed to support dual-chamber pacing and future conduction system pacing.

Cohen currently serves on the boards of several public and private innovative healthcare companies, including Kestra Medical Technologies (Nasdaq: KMTS). He also serves as an operating partner in the venture fund Star51, as well as a venture partner with Andera Partners and Sherpa Capital Partners.

Following preclinical results reported in a 2026 Europace abstract, CAIRDAC is preparing for its first-in-human study, with a development pathway targeting CE marking in Europe before a U.S. key study. Current investors include Mérieux Equity Partners, Supernova Invest, Bpifrance, Sham Innovation Santé, and Crédit Agricole Touraine et Poitou. During 2025, Cohen led the sale of SoniVie, Ltd. for $600 million and Nalu Medical for $533 million.
