Michael Nadler, a lawyer specializing in corruption investigations, money laundering, and financial crimes, has been identified as the legal representative of Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California. This revelation came after an audio recording was released, in which Ávila Olmeda confirms that Nadler is her lawyer.
In the recording, a man claiming to be an intermediary for the FBI asks Ávila Olmeda if she still has the same lawyer, to which she responds, “Pues sí” and confirms that her lawyer is indeed Michael Nadler from Miami.
Nadler is a Miami-based lawyer with expertise in regulatory, criminal, and civil investigations. His practice focuses on cases related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, money laundering investigations, healthcare fraud, securities law violations, and white-collar crime defense.
Prior to his private practice, Nadler served as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of Florida for nearly a decade, where he participated in high-profile financial investigations and criminal trials.
During his time at the US Attorney’s Office, Nadler led over 25 federal jury trials and argued before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Nadler was part of a specialized group that combated money laundering and international corruption, investigating financial operations involving public officials and organizations from various countries.
Some of his notable cases include investigations related to Venezuelan officials, as well as cases in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, including probes into European banks and foreign nationals.

Nadler also served as the lead prosecutor in several high-impact money laundering and FCPA cases in southern Florida.
One of his most notable cases was the investigation into the former Venezuelan treasurer, which resulted in the seizure of approximately $1 billion, considered one of the largest confiscations obtained by US authorities in such cases.
Nadler’s expertise in corruption and money laundering cases may be relevant to Ávila Olmeda’s situation, given the allegations against her and the reported negotiations with US authorities.
The audio recording’s release has sparked controversy, as Ávila Olmeda had previously denied engaging in secret negotiations with US authorities.
However, the recording suggests that she may have maintained legal representation in the US due to charges against her.
This development comes weeks after reporters reported that Morena militants were seeking to become informants for the US, following accusations by the US Department of Justice against several former Sinaloa government officials.
Ávila Olmeda’s case is complex.
