The Alfa Romeo Villa d’Este 6C 2500 Super Sport, a car that once defined luxury at a time when a bicycle was the standard, is still one of the most beautiful vehicles ever built. The classic event “Villa d’Este Style – One Lake, One Car” showcases this specific car, along with other rare models from the immediate post-war era, on the exclusive Terrazza Platani of the Hotel Villa d’Este. The exhibition aims to transport guests back to a period when the drive to Como was often as prestigious as the destination itself.
Origins of a Legend
The car’s name comes from its first major win in 1949. Milanese coachbuilder Touring Superleggera built a luxury version of the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport for the Concours d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este. The vehicle was designed by Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni. It won the public prize at the event, leading to the car being permanently named the “Villa d’Este.” Touring produced 32 examples of this specific model from 1949 to 1952. Only about 20 of them are currently known to exist.

Giuseppe Fontana, president of the hotel’s board of directors, spoke about the event. He stated that the car is an “icon without time” and a symbol of elegance and innovation. The event serves to highlight the connection between the automobile and the history of the hotel, which has been a hub for high-end car culture for decades. Fontana emphasized the importance of preserving this heritage.

This car gained widespread fame in 1999 after appearing in the James Bond film “The World Is Not Enough,” driven by Pierce Brosnan.
Artisanal Treasures
Experts from the Italian Association for the History of the Automobile, including Marco Makaus and Michele Casiraghi, provide commentary on the vehicles. They share anecdotes and construction details with the audience. The event also focuses on the craftsmanship of the era.
